PW1 in DOB NOW: prepare the application consistently
By DOB Desk · MoLabs LLC · Updated
PW1 means Plan/Work Application. In DOB NOW: Build, the Plans/Work section describes the proposed job, location, and responsible parties. Treat it as the shared description of the application: the drawings and related filing data need to agree with it.
Collect the source information first
A practical preparation packet starts with the property record, drawing cover sheet, agreed scope, and a contact list showing each person's role. Keep source notes with the packet so someone else can tell which details were looked up and which were supplied by the project team.
Do not silently resolve a conflict between a drawing and a city record. Flag the difference and ask the person responsible for that part of the application to confirm it. A blank marked for review is easier to correct than an assumption that looks final.
- Address, borough, BIN, block, and lot
- Existing and proposed work locations
- Current drawing issue and scope summary
- Actual applicant, owner, and filing representative identities
Write a scope that other reviewers can reconcile
As a working method, describe what changes, where it changes, and what remains. Avoid a broad phrase such as 'interior work' when the drawings show several distinct systems or locations. Keep proposed work separate from existing conditions.
For example, a team note can identify the floor, the affected area, and whether structural, plumbing, or other work needs review. That note is preparation material; the responsible professional decides the correct application classifications and final description.
Review the PW1 against the rest of the package
Use the same revision set for the application review. If a scope changes after cost or inspection data was prepared, reopen those checks rather than assuming the change only affects the drawing.
- Compare work locations with drawing titles and schedules.
- Confirm that existing and proposed figures are not reversed.
- Check related cost and inspection data after a scope revision.
- Keep professional and owner decisions assigned to the correct person.
Use autofill as a reviewed handoff
DOB Desk prepares supported filing data and the browser extension enters eligible fields for you to inspect. Compare the green-outlined entries with your source packet and review anything that was skipped or needs clarification.
Autofill does not validate every project condition or complete an official filing action. Keep the review checkpoint between data entry and any signature, payment, or submission.
Questions and answers
Is a saved PW1 the same as an approved job?
No. Saving application data is a preparation step. Check the official application status and the remaining required actions separately.
